It depends on the design, but there is a floor below which the piece does not survive. Ink spreads slightly in the skin over the years, so two lines very close together end up touching and the drawing becomes a blur. If your idea is too small to survive that, we tell you the minimum size it needs instead of taking the booking and letting you find out in five years.

It does not disappear, but it loses definition before a bold stroke, because there is less pigment holding the shape. With good placement, the right size and sunscreen it holds beautifully. In a rubbing area, done too small and without sun protection, it blurs quickly. The difference is almost always those three decisions, and we make them with you before starting.

Hands, fingers, feet and the side of the finger are the worst: they rub constantly, get washed a lot and regenerate differently, so the thin line breaks. The neck and high-sun areas are also problematic. Forearm, upper arm, shoulder and back are safe territory. We tell you before you book, not when you are already in the chair.

Sometimes yes, and it is normal: some skin absorbs a fine line unevenly and a stretch comes out lighter once healed. It is not a defect of the work, it is how a thin stroke behaves on certain skin. We warn you upfront so it is not a surprise, and if the touch-up is attributable to our work, it is not charged.

Yes, and it is one of the most requested things. The key is letter size and the space between strokes: a typeface with very fine serifs at a small size closes in over the years and ends up illegible. We propose the minimum type size at which the phrase still reads in a decade, even if it means it takes more room than you had in mind.

Usually yes: short pieces, less invasive, and they show you how your skin responds before you commit to something large. The only thing we ask is that you do not make it too small just out of fear, because that is the mistake you pay for later. Like any other, but with more care around sun and friction, its two enemies. Two weeks of gentle washing and cream in a thin layer, no pool or beach. After that, sunscreen whenever the area is exposed. A well-protected fine line stays crisp for years; one that summers without cream loses definition in a couple of seasons.
