It is priced by the time filling takes, not by how complicated the drawing looks. A large area of solid black takes time, and that is the part that drives the price. Almost always more than one if the area is large. A dense fill rushed in a single sitting usually comes out uneven, with lighter patches that show once it heals, and fixing it costs more than doing it properly from the start. We prefer to give you the realistic number of sessions in the quote, even if it sounds like more commitment, than sell you one and leave you with a patchy fill.

Wide fill is more monotonous and tiring than linework, especially over bone — ribs, sternum, ankles. It is not sharper pain, it is longer. That is why we spread large pieces across sessions with rest and stop when you need to. Nobody tattoos better with a client at their limit, and a session badly endured shows in the result.

It is the style that holds up best, and that is exactly its argument. Solid black keeps its shape for decades, while fine detail closes in over the years. If you want something that still reads clearly in twenty years, this is the way. That said, the composition has to be well thought out from the start, because a large bad blob is the hardest thing to fix afterwards.

Sometimes yes, and it is one of the reasons people arrive at this style. It depends on how dark and saturated what you already have is: if it is very black, laser may be needed first to lighten it. Send us a well-lit, front-on photo and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done, whether it needs laser first, or whether the honest answer is no.

Yes, and that usually works best. In blackwork the shape of the black and the shape of the skin left bare matter equally: the empty space is part of the design, not what is left over. That is why we design around the muscle and how the area moves, and we ask about the body part before we ask about the motif. You can see examples in the studio gallery.

Full arm, shoulder, chest, back and thigh behave best with wide surfaces: there is room for the composition to breathe and the skin is stable. High-friction or high-sun areas lose density sooner and may need a touch-up later. We tell you what to expect from your specific area when you ask for a quote, without dressing it up.

Like any tattoo, but with more irritated surface, so the first 48 hours are more uncomfortable. Gentle washing, cream in a very thin layer, and no submerging the area. It will itch and it will peel: do not scratch or pull at the scabs, because that is where pigment is lost and light patches appear. The full routine is published on the aftercare page.

From 15 with a strict process: written authorisation from the parent or legal guardian, copies of both ID documents, and the adult present on the day of the session to verify identity and the relationship. Below that age we do not tattoo, no exceptions. We also give our honest opinion on the decision: which areas to avoid at that age and what size makes sense long-term.
